Sparkling wine tax reduction on July 1st: 25 million euros tax relief for producers!
The Austrian manufacturers had always described the tax as distorting competition. Price increases of one euro per litre led to a market slump.
Vienna – The Austrian sparkling wine producers celebrate the abolition of the sparkling wine tax they have been criticizing for years. It takes effect July 1, 2020 and puts the tax relief through this measure at 25 million euros. After the reintroduction of the tax of one euro per litre in 2014, the Austrian sparkling wine market slumped by a quarter, say the sparkling wine manufacturers.
The abolition of the sparkling wine tax “provides for mood brightening in the industry in the difficult Corona period,” said Ernst Polster-Kattus, spokesman for the sparkling wine industry in the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, on Tuesday, according to the announcement.
