Snowfall temporarily paralyzed traffic in western Austria
Because of numerous cars with summer tyres got stuck on the Brenner freeway, the A13 had to be closed!
Since November 1, winter tyres have been compulsory in Austria if driving conditions are suitable. The fact that this would happen on the very first day of November apparently surprised some drivers in western Austria.
On the Brenner freeway (A13) in Tyrol, traffic came to a complete standstill on Monday evening.
Problems were also reported on alternative roads.
As reported by the “Tiroler Tageszeitung”, some trucks, motor homes and cars were stuck, some with summer tyres. So effectively they were breaking the road regulations.
Traffic had to be diverted to the Brenner Road (B182), which also had to be closed due to the snowfall.
According to media reports, the A13 was closed for almost three hours. On Monday evening shortly before midnight, the highway could be reopened to traffic.
