Cable cars will run until this Sunday, all hotels close on Monday.
Vienna / Salzburg.
The state of Salzburg is tightening the measures in the fight against the spread of the corona virus and – like Tyrol – is ending the winter season prematurely. The cable cars have the last day of operation on Sunday 15.03.20, and all accommodation facilities will be closed officially from Monday 16.03.20.
It was decided on Thursday evening 12.03.20, at a meeting with representatives of the Salzburg tourism industry, the catering trade, the cable cars and the accommodation providers. The decision is based on the epidemic law. For the accommodation companies, Monday was chosen as the last open day, in order to ensure an orderly return trip for guests from the ski areas, the state’s correspondence said.
“Decision anything but easy”
“This decision was anything but easy, but I see it as a necessary step to do everything possible to curb the spread of the coronavirus,” said Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP). The decision was necessary for the good of all.
The number of cases in tourism has increased in recent days: on Thursday evening, a hotel in Quengantine in Lungau in Salzburg had to be quarantined. Three guests from Germany who had previously spent the night in this establishment were tested positive for the corona virus in their home country. The operators and employees are affected by the quarantine. In total, there are ten people, said the State of Salzburg. The guest house also has 83 guests who stay quarantined overnight and can then travel home subject to conditions.
