The federal government and state governors met, this Wednesday morning 8th December, in the Chancellor’s Office to fix the framework conditions for the end of the lockdown.
As planned, the curfew for vaccinated and recovered persons will be lifted on Sunday throughout Austria and will then only apply to the unvaccinated. However, there will probably be a curfew in the catering industry and further security measures, for example at cultural events.
In general, the lockdown for the vaccinated and recovered ends this Saturday after three weeks. All areas – trade, service providers such as hairdressers, gastronomy, tourism, culture, sports – except night catering may reopen for vaccinated and convalescents.
Immediately before the meeting nobody expressed concerns on the part of the Federal Government contentwise for the lifting of restrcitions. From government circles the message was that a “close-meshed safety net” is planned – thus 2G, FFP2 mask obligation and “intensive controls”.
The federal states could set stricter measures as needed.
Closing time at 11 p.m.
Accordingly, an opening of the trade, the body-related service providers, the hotel industry and gastronomy is planned – the latter, however, with a closing time at 23.00 .
Further closed restrictions might remain according to the first information (as expected) night catering trade and Apres ski restaurants. Cultural institutions can probably again welcome up to 1,000 guests, provided there are assigned seats. Accordingly, FFP2 masks are also mandatory in enclosed spaces.
Sports – both indoors and outdoors – will be possible with a 2G certificate, and the FFP2 mask requirement will no longer apply to direct sports activities – this will probably also affect fitness studios, among others. 3G will continue to apply in the workplace.
Within the previous 24 hours up to Wednesday morning, 8th December, Austria had 5,663 new infections with the Coronavirus. At the same time, 58 infected people died, bringing the total number of pandemic victims to 12,979 so far
