Austria to ease restrictions 14th April?

Smaller shops re-open after Easter – schools, restaurants stay closed until mid-May.

In eight days the shops will unlock again. Despite the Corona crisis, the shops are allowed to re-open after Easter on April 14, but initially only those with up to 400 square meters as well as DIY and garden centers.

Complete trade should start again from the beginning of May.

Hairdressers can also open again. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) announced this on Monday 6th at a government press conference.

The federal gardens in Vienna and Innsbruck will also open their doors on April 14th. “However, there will be strict admission controls. Inside the facilities, the police will consistently take care and ensure that the necessary clearances are maintained,” Agriculture Minister Elisabeth Köstinger said in a broadcast.

The exit restrictions due to the Corona crisis will continue until the end of April. As of next week, there will also be an obligation to wear mouth / nose protection on public transport. Events are prohibited until the end of June.

Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) made it clear at the government’s press conference that the easing measures will be withdrawn immediately if the number of cases should rise again accordingly.

Austria reacted faster and more restrictively than other countries and was able to prevent bad things. “This gives us the opportunity to get out of the crisis faster.” But that would only be possible if everyone continued to adhere to the measures, said the Chancellor, referring to the “dramatic international picture” with over 15,000 deaths in Italy and over 12,000 deaths in Spain.
