Z- FAQ's

With so many log cabin/home products on the market, how does anybody know whether they are selecting the right manufacturer? And why should we buy from your company?

Our manufacturer is without doubt Norway’s finest. They have an impressive 40 year track record which is second to none, along with a commendable history of many satisfied customers. When you search on line for log cabins you'll see lots of companies supplying smaller cabins similar to beach huts, fishing shacks, garden sheds, summer houses, small lodges etc… That's not our market! Our manufacturer supplies the very best market leading residential log cabins and luxury log homes of up to three storeys high. Even our lowest price cabin has two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen within an open plan living/dining area. Most also have room for a sauna.

Is the wood we use eco-friendly, meaning sustainable…

The Norwegians have a long tradition of ecological application to ensure the sustainability of their vast land mass of forests which play an important role in their timber industry. Norwegian Timber is an Eco friendly guarantee.

What's included, and what’s not included in the price?

Included in the price is the complete exterior and interior kit of your chosen design. This includes doors, windows, exterior terracing, external cladding that we refer to as "wilderness finish", internal flooring, insulation and the shingle roof finish. The chimney stack as seen in photo images, used by most Norwegians for their log fires, is not included as many people prefer an alternative form of heating both in the UK and across Europe.

You must budget for all services (electricity, gas, plumbing and waste connection to drainage),

Kitchen and a bathroom suits are a personal choice and not included.

Foundations are our client’s responsibility. Delivery is not included and will be quoted separately.

Can any changes be made to any of our designs?

The internal walls can be formed to suit individual needs and certain cabins can be extended in both width and length. Cabins with a loft area can be used as additional bedroom areas. Please note we can offer mirror- image versions of each cabin.

You may wish to consider changing the cabin aesthetically, for instance, by plastering the interior, or tiling the bathrooms and kitchen walls. Other changes such as alternative size windows – doors etc. can be quoted for. We are not however, taking orders for completely bespoke designs at present.

Can purchasers assemble the log cabins themselves?

Yes is the simple answer, our Norwegian log cabins and log homes are supplied as full kits for you to assemble yourself. If you decide on the D.I.Y option we provide a full set instructions and everything you need, right down to the last nail. We even pack the container so that when you open it, what you need first is at the front.

WE can of course arrange for a builder to do the job for you.

Approximately how long will it take for my log cabin or log home to be manufactured?

On average, manufacturing and delivery time is just 6 weeks from order, but depending on the time of year your order is placed it could possible within 2 weeks.

Roughly speaking - How long would it take to construct a log cabin?

The patented ‘Element’ system allows for very speedy construction times. Once the foundations are completed an experienced team of just two builders would certainly get the main structure and shell up and watertight in just a few days. Perhaps 2/3 weeks to finish the whole kit inside and out with connecting services and installing bathrooms and kitchens.

Does your log cabin or log home need planning permission?

This all depends on your application and usage, certain sizes do not require planning. If however it is for residential use then Yes, wou will need planning permission.

Do you have blueprints for the foundations along with self-build instructions?

We supply blueprints and construction instructions upon payment of your deposit. You do not necessarily require them to get planning permission.

I take it my new log cabin/home will need a foundation, do I need a Surveyor?

Yes -concrete footings will be required to comply with Building regulations and these will depend on the density of your soil. You should seek advice from a building surveyor. Remember – your cabin construction can only be guaranteed upon correct foundations being formed.

At what point do we connect the services i.e. gas, electric, waste & water?

Services such as electricity, gas, water and waste are ideally connected once the walls are in position, and before they are insulated. The interior walls present an empty void into which services may be installed. These cavities are then filled with insulation in readiness for internal wall finish. Likewise, one should consider any pipe work or cable connections necessary within the ceiling area, before final cladding. These matters should discuss with your contractor before works commence.

How much maintenance is required?

Just like any new home it is important to maintain the exterior and at first sign of paint or varnish flaking attention should be given. There are many products on the market but we are happy to recommend several companies.

Is my log house going to last as long as a normal house?

If you compare Norway’s harsh winter conditions to those of the UK and Ireland, and the rest of Europe your log cabin should last for 100 to 200 years or more. If you look after your log home it will last you a lifetime and beyond. In Norway there are log cabins still standing after several hundred years!

Can I get a mortgage on my log cabin or log home?

Yes - there are Banks and lenders who will help you finance your log cabins and log home development and specialist Insurances available for comprehensive cover.

Will my log cabin/home keep me warm in the winter?

Yes, wood is a fantastic insulator. As you can imagine being built for our Norwegian home market, the winters there can be very cold indeed. - 20C is not unusual in the mountain areas. Our products perform superbly in both winter and summer climates.

Surely this style of building is going to be expensive?

From cost comparisons it is relatively inexpensive compared with traditional brick, stone, steel & concrete construction. With affordable housing being a world wide problem and demand out stripping availability, there has never been a better that now to invest in a log cabin or log home and turn your dreams into a reality.

Is it possible to visit Norway to see any constructed show houses?

Yes - our suppliers have their very own show village site near the town of Drammen in Norway. We currently have six models fully constructed and awaiting your inspection. There is nothing like hoping over and coming to see the superior quality with your own eyes. Flights from the UK are very cheap. For example from Stansted to Oslo Torp with Ryanair will cost you no more than a good meal out. If you decide to make an inspection trip and eventually place an order, we will happily refund your travel costs along with a night’s accommodation.
